You Want Me To Do What?!?

Acts 4:32-37

The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had everything in common. With great power the Apostles bore witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the Apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need. Thus Joseph, also named by the Apostles Barnabas (which is translated Ason of encouragement"), a Levite, a Cypriot by birth, sold a piece of property that he owned, then brought the money and put it at the feet of the Apostles.

As an American this is one of those readings that starts to get me to squirm a bit. First it makes me realize how little I do for others. I mean I am a Christian and here I see these other Christians giving all they have to the community, and how much did I put in the plate last Sunday? Secondly I like my stuff. I worked hard for my stuff. I saved to buy my guitars and amps and what-not. I don't see any other Christians giving all they have to the Church.

And were off to the races...

I could at this point easily rationalize here and talk about what I do give and today's society, it's nature and how things are different now. I think the biggest reason why I squirm is because I know how much God blesses me and how little I give back. My writing is doing better. I have given my writing (music and else wise) over to God. But looking around my studio I see guitars hanging on the wall that I have played for a long time, so I am in the process of selling those and giving some of the money to various Faith-based charities. It's hard letting go of some of my possessions. I have a couple that I would like to gift outright, but so far none of the lines I have put out have come to fruition. So if you know of a person or church that could used a guitar feel free to contact me personally (obbo_91@yahoo.com). My stuff isn't top shelf, but I am willing to share what I have.

Jesus,

you have blessed me so, and I am ashamed that I have not done better with what I have. I am a work in progress, but I am completely yours. I love you. Show me how I can help others by giving what I have and how I can help myself by letting go and loving you. I am your servant, waiting for your orders.

In Jesus Christ's name I pray,

Amen
